aka “It’s Craigslist, Toots!”
The world we live in is a wondrous place except for when it all goes wrong.
As an avid internet shopper, I have been known to fill my car to the top with closeout darkroom material, to the point that if I had passengers, they would have to become my hood ornament! One day, I found a guy on Craigslist who was selling Agfa paper, a potential great find. I bought all he had. I did the requisite paper test when I got back to my studio, but discovered that the top, bottom and middle sheets were all bad and worthless.
I called the Craigslist dude and reported the situation. His reply was “It’s Craigslist Toots!”
Dismayed after being robbed, snookered, bamboozled and damn, seeing my well-spent money fly out the window, I decided that this disaster was going to end up golden.
I tried a first test, sketching on the bad paper with film developer in the darkroom but there was not enough space to do it. For the second test I tried using half darkroom/half studio space…but nope, nada. The third test was at midnight, jamming the open studio with the darkroom trays filled with chemicals and voila!
Ouroboros – a gift from the universe.
