I Ching Photographs, 2014 – 2019

 

The I Ching can be a fortune teller. The interpretation of the reading can direct your future into chaos or happiness, depending on the state of mind of the reader.

Karalla is paying homage to John Cage’s I Ching and the world of photography. Like shooting pool, photography is all about the angles. Sinking the billiard ball is not the end all, it is the angle of the shot and how many elements you incorporate into the play in order to sink your ball, or make that perfect picture. The more difficult the shot, the more interesting it becomes to watch, especially if it breaks all known rules of the game.

So breaking those rules, Karalla takes her large format negatives, cuts them into various triangle sizes, gives them a toss onto the scanner. As life is all about chance, it falls together to be.
